Prayer and Fasting: Day 22 Friday 3rd April prayer in the church
(By Sylvanus Bowlin) Pray that God will help us as a church and individuals to be persistent in our daily prayer life with him. What does the bible say about prayers? James5:16 The prayers of a righteous man are powerful and effective. Prayers are the way in which we communicate with God and it deepens our relationship with him. I pray that these verses will encourage your daily walk with Jesus and help you experience the power of prayer. I believe that prayer is the fundamental thing in a believers’ life. If we look at the life of Jesus his whole life was based on prayer, communication with the father. A relationship without communication is no relationship; it’s a two way thing. So for a healthy relationship with our God and Lord we need to keep on praying both individually and corporately. As a body of believers God wants us to be persistent in our prayers. God wants to communicate with us and he wants us to communicate with him. We need to hear from God, discovering what he is saying to us as a body. God wants us to bring everything to him so that he can help us. We can do this by the word and prayers, so here are some scripture verses to help us with our prayer life and our walk with God. Bible verses about prayers are great if you want to know how to pray. Jesus is our perfect example. John17:15 15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. Luke18:1 Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. Matthew26:41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Matthew6:6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Matthew6:9-13 9 “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation,[a] but deliver us from the evil one.[b]’ Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Colossians 4:2, 3, 4 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. 3 And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. 4 Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. 1 Timothy 2:1-4 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 1 Thessalonians 5:16, 17, 25 6 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 25 Brothers and sisters, pray for us.
